Meet the Team
Abbey House currently has over 100 employees, many working shifts to help provide around the clock care. We are committed to being an equal opportunities employer and pride ourselves in supporting employees to develop personally and professionally.
We have a team of veterinary surgeons some working regularly at one particular clinic and others that work from a number of different locations. We aim to provide appointments at your nearest location with a vet you know or can build a trusting bond with. All vets have to be registered as members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) and have to keep their knowledge up to date by attending regular training, records of which are auditable by the RCVS. We encourage and support our vets to develop their skills and knowledge and most undertake post graduate qualifications.
Having registered veterinary nurses within the team is essential to support the vets and provide the required standards of care we set. For over 30 years the practice has been a large training centre for VN’s and this remains a priority.
Without the wider team of support staff including the veterinary care assistants, reception, dispensing assistants, admin team, driver, cleaners etc we would not be able to provide the services we do or to the level we do for which we are very grateful.

Alex qualified from the University of Agriculture Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in July 2017. During her six year degree course Alex helped at her local veterinary practice, then following qualification spent two months on a scholarship placement in Palma, Mallorca. Alex joined the veterinary team at Abbey House in February 2018 and is passionate about internal medicine, nutrition and gastrointestinal tract diseases. Alex has two cats who are 14 and 15yrs and two dogs a Vizla and German Shepherd.

Allyson is an Animal Handler and Receptionist who joined the practice in November 1993 and works at both the Cleckheaton and Rothwell branches. She runs the Puppy classes here at Abbey House and has an interest in dog behaviour and has studied with COAPE & done various Sarah Whitehead courses. She has a cat called Saffy and Cody, a Flat Coated Retriever, who goes with her to puppy classes to help socialise the puppies.

Amy Barrass is a Senior receptionist at Abbey House Veterinary Hospital Morley. She started in April 2016 as a receptionist and became a Senior receptionist in November 2017. AMy loves her job and enjoys meeting all of the Animals and their owners. Amy has a 4 year old Daughter and 2 crazy Jack Russel’s called Ronnie and Narla.

Arianne completed a FdSc in Veterinary Nursing from Myerscough College in 2010. She did her training in a practice in York before move to a small animal hospital in North Leeds, where she worked for 6 years, mainly on the wards looking after patients. There she completed her advanced diploma in Veterinary Nursing. She joined Abbey house April 2018 and is enjoying caring for the variety of patients that come to Abbey House.

Caroline joined the practice in June 2002, she completed a Level 2 National Certificate for Veterinary Practice Receptionists in 2009 and completed the AMTRA (SQP) Suitably Qualified Person qualification in 2014 to become an animal medicine advisor. Caroline currently has a springer spaniel named Douglas and three chickens.

Evi joined the practice in January 2016, she graduated from the University of Thessaly in Greece. Following qualification she spent time working at the Hellenic Animal Society in Athens and working in a veterinary hospital in North Yorkshire. Evi is currently studying for a post graduate certificate and has a interest in critical care medicine.

Fiona qualified in 2014 then spent one year in general practice before moving into ECC. She has worked in emergency and critical care since August 2015 and has been with abbey house since feb 2018. Fiona is currently studying my cert vn ecc which she is due to complete in March. She has a particularly interested in abdominal emergencies, fluid therapy and transfusion medicine. At home Fiona has a little chihuahua called Elvis and they enjoy camping and fell walking together. Elvis’s latest achievement is blencathra via sharp edge!

Grace started working at Abbey House as an animal care assistant, she left to move away but came back again and now works on reception. Grace Has a FdSc in Zoological Conservation and a National Diploma in Animal Management. Grace is a keen rat enthusiast and goes to many of the Yorkshire Rat Club shows. Grace has 3 rats of her own, 1 male dumbo called Orion and 2 female top eared call Luna and Star.

Jade qualified as a veterinary surgeon from The University of Liverpool in 2015 and after a year of working in a corporate small animal practice in West Yorkshire she joined the Abbey House team in August 2016.
Jade generally works from the Kippax clinic but does help cover at all the branches and the Morley hospital. Jade has an interest in veterinary medicine and also runs the puppy training classes from the Kippax clinic.
She has two dogs, a Pomeranian and a Pomeranian cross Cavalier who both compete in Rally Obedience competitions.

James joined the practice in January 2015 following qualification from The University of Cambridge in 2014 and after spending time working for a charity in India neutering stray dogs. James has completed extra study in small animal dentistry and has taken the lead with the dental work at the hospital in Morley where we have a newly refurbished dental suite and a new dental x-ray unit. He currently studying for a postgraduate certificate in small animal surgery.

Janie started at Abbey House in July 2017 as an ACA with no previous experience and started her training as a TVN in April 2018. Janie is enjoying her new career and loves coming to work. Janie is a self confessed crazy cat lady and has a specific interest in cats and would like to pursue this more once she am qualified. Janie has 2 cats, a ragdoll called Evee and a DSH called Khaleesi and a German shepherd called Fudge!

Justyna graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the Warsaw Agricultural University, Poland, in 2001. She started working at Abbey House in October 2009 after spending 3 years working in another small animal practice in Leeds. Justyna is interested in internal medicine and looks after the inpatients in the hospital ward, her specialism however is in animal welfare and behaviour. She has a post graduate diploma in companion animal behaviour counselling from The University of Southampton.

Kayleigh has been with Abbey House for nearly 3 years. She started off as a VCA at the Morley hospital working days, then moved on to work the overnight shifts focusing on out of hours care, before finally coming to our Kippax branch to do reception and animal handling. Kayleigh is currently completing her level 2 diploma for Veterinary Care Assistant with the College of Animal Welfare which she hopes to complete by the summer of next year. At home her time is taken up by her 2 cats; Jasper and Dexter, her dog Bruce and her corn snake Chester.

Kirsty qualified in 2010 with a FdSc degree in Veterinary Nursing from Harper Adams University. Kirsty joined the team at Morely in July 2014, taking a position within the Onocology team in January 2015. She has a special interest in palliative care and Quality of Life, which was the subject of her dissertation for her Advanced Veterinary Nursing Diploma. In February 2018, Kirsty gained her Advanced Nursing Diploma with Distinction.

Lisa is a Clinical Director at Abbey House. She qualified in 1989 from the Royal Dick, Edinburgh and has worked in Leeds since that time. She gained a certificate in veterinary ophthalmology in 1996 and as well as consulting and operating from our Rothwell and Kippax branches she also sees ophthalmology referrals from other practices.

She also has a keen interest in pain management and emergency and critical care.

He has worked at Willows Referral Service in Solihull for many years alongside his role as a professor at the University of Nottingham vet school. Rob is happy to see all soft tissue surgery cases but has a special interest in airway and urogenital surgery. He is also a world expert on the management of porto systemic shunts and brings unrivalled experience in this field.

Tom is a Clinical Director at Abbey House. He graduated from Cambridge in 1983 and has been in small animal practice ever since. He specialises in radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. He is also able to perform laparoscopic surgery which is less invasive than open surgery and results in reduced post-op pain and more rapid recoveries.

Trudi has a veterinary degree from the University of Bristol, and has been part of the Kippax team since the clinic opened in 2007. During the past 10 years she has developed her interest in rabbit medicine and surgery and now provides veterinary care to rabbits over a wide area of Yorkshire. Her other main interest is feline medicine. In her spare time she looks after her house-rabbit and 3 cats.
