  • Intensive Care Unit

Abbey House possesses a dedicated intensive care unit.

The unit has facilities to manage a range of patients from a large dog down to rabbits and neonates. An incubator, suction, piped oxygen and an oxygen cage are available to treat those animals with circulatory or respiratory disease as well as Minray multimedia monitors.

The area has direct access to the practice laboratory allowing rapid analysis of blood samples. Blood gas analysis is also available.

Ventilatory support of critically ill animals can be employed although prolonged management of such cases would require discussion with the owner and any referring veterinary surgeon.

The facility is available to all patients at Abbey House and those admitted by our out of hours emergency service Leeds Emergency Vets.

In addition, we would be pleased to manage referrals from other practices that either have a critical medical condition or have undergone surgery and require 24 hours nursing.

The unit is staffed throughout the day and 24 hours nursing of individual patients can be provided if required.

If you wish to discuss whether you have a case that might benefit from hospitalisation within our intensive care unit, please do not hesitate to contact us.
