We are currently accepting applications for EMS placements at Abbey House – here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.
EMS student experience
We only take one EMS student at a time, but we are happy to accept students from any stage in their training.
Opportunities available for EMS students and working hours
Working hours for EMS are 40-48 hours per week, equivalent to 8-9 hours per day for 5 days. We ask EMS students where they want their area of focus to be and then look to place them with the most suitable vet on the rota shifts - consulting, operating, hospital or a mixture of them all.
What we expect from our EMS students and what they can expect in return
We are a small animal placement in a hospital setting. The hospital is open 24 hours, so students are able to witness cases through to the end, as well as in house medicine and orthopaedic referrals and emergency cases. An EMS student will primarily spend their time shadowing, observing, and supporting the vet they are placed with that day. There will be occasions when the vet may need time off rota, and we would expect the student to be working towards any project work and/or supporting other areas of the practice to gain an understanding of their roles within the practice.
Travel and accommodation
A car owner would be an advantage, and free parking is available in surrounding roads and a public car park within a short walking distance. Morley has good bus routes and a train station which is approximately a 15-minute walk away from the hospital. We are unfortunately not able to provide any accommodation.
Are there any accessibility considerations that I might need to take into account at your practice?
The practice is over two floors, but a lift is available to use.
The practice also offers a staff room and kitchen for people to take a break.
