Frequently asked questions about our home visits service

  • How do I book a home visit appointment?

You can visit or call your local Abbey House branch and let the receptionist know you would like a pre-planned vet visit.

The receptionist will check you live in one of the postcode areas where we are able to offer this service and confirm this will be the address for the home visit. If you don’t then we may be able to accommodate your request, but additional charges would apply.

The receptionist will provide you with the available dates and times and you can book one that suits you. If the availability doesn’t suit your requirements, then appointments in the clinic can be booked as normal or the existing emergency home visit service will apply.

If you cannot accommodate any delays to your appointment, please let us know at the time of booking as we will try and offer a time slot where we are less likely to be held up by traffic or previous visits.

A visit request form will be completed and then passed on to the senior reception team at the Morley hospital. You will receive a call back from the senior reception team to confirm the appointment and details of the visit.

Payment of the home visit fee must be made at the time of booking and in any event 1 working day prior to the visit date.  A working day is any day Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays in England.

  • Which postcodes does the home visit service cover?

The postcode areas we will cover are:

    • LS10, LS11, LS12, LS15, LS25, LS26, LS27;
    • BD11, BD12, BD19;WF1, WF2, WF3, WF5,
    • WF6, WF10, WF12, WF13, WF15, WF16, WF17.
  • How much will a home visit cost?

The home visit fee will cost £15.  This is the price for one visit and will be fixed irrespective of the number of pets you have.

If the vet provides additional services during the home visit, these will be priced separately and the price for these notified to you by the vet in your home.

  • How and when will payment be made?

Payment for home visit appointments is made in advance at this point to confirm the appointment.

Payment can be made on the phone when you book, or via your local clinic, provided the payment is received 1 working day prior to the visit date.   A working day is any day Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England.

As with normal procedure in the clinics, additional payment is expected at the time of treatment. The home vet team will charge the account on return to the clinic after visits and they will make a call to take payment over the phone. Home visit clients will be expected to sign a form to agree they owe and will pay within 1 working day of the visit.  A working day is any day Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England.

  • What to expect on the day of your appointment

On the morning of the pre-planned visit, the vet will call and give you an estimated time of arrival, although we can not guarantee an exact time. If any delays are encountered where possible we will call or text to notify you.

When you have been given an estimated arrival time please make sure you and your pet are ready for our vet and animal handler to visit. If your cat gets out of the house or cannot be retrieved out of their favourite hiding place and the vet is not able to perform the consultation the visit fee will still apply.

  • Will the vet provide any medication for my pet on a home visit?

The home visit team will not carry a full dispensary with them, if your pet requires medication that the vet doesn’t have with them, then it can be collected from your nearest clinic or where possible posted (postal charge will apply).  Alternatively a written prescription may be available.

Any medication will be costed separately to the home visit fee.

  • Can the vet take my pet to hospital?

If your pet needs to be admitted to the hospital for further treatment, it may be possible for the team to take the pet at that time or for a collection to be planned.  However Abbey House at Home is not a pet taxi service.

Any transportation will be costed separately to the home visit fee.

  • Can I cancel or rearrange?

You may cancel any time up until 1 working day in advance of your appointment.  A working day is any day Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England.

If you cancel before this deadline, we will refund your £15 home visit fee in full.  In all other circumstances, except where we have provided a faulty service in accordance with our terms, the fee will apply. This includes instances where the vet is not able to perform the examination due to the pet not being available.

You may rearrange your appointment up to 1 working day before the start of your appointment window.  A working day is any day Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays in England.

In such instances, the visit fee will be transferred to your new appointment date and time.

  • Can Abbey House Vets cancel?

The safety of our team is paramount and if they feel safety is compromised, they will halt the visit and the fees will still apply.
