Abbey House – Oncology Patient Care Assistant
Permanent position, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Abbey House Hospital is based in Morley, 7 miles south of Leeds with great train and bus links into the city, as well as easy access to the beautiful Peak District and the city of York less than 1 hour away.
We are a high standard primary care and referral Tier 3 Hospital & Training Practice (proudly Cat Friendly) with four satellite clinics. Our facilities are excellent (4 theatres, separate cat/dog/rabbit wards plus ICU, CT, oncology suite, visiting MRI, scopes including laparoscopy, operating microscope, dental suite with x-ray, high spec internal lab with lab tech) and we have an experienced and supportive Nurse Leadership Team. Our OOH service is run by our own dedicated night team, meaning our caseload is amazing but there is no requirement to work regular OOH.

We have access to a HUGE bank of Linnaeus CPD including the AVA accredited Anaesthesia, RECOVER, ECC and Leadership Development.

Your role and responsibilities
We are expanding our team and we have an Oncology Patient Care Assistant (PCA) position available.
This position is ideal for someone wanting to ultimately progress into a full time student veterinary nurse position and therefore we are looking for someone with suitable qualifications to access the nursing training course.
£9.30p per hour
The PCAs role may involve:
- Assisting the nurses with the care of the surgical, medical and oncology patients
- Cleaning and preparation of surgical equipment and cleaning of the surgical areas
- Assisting the veterinary surgeons with animals in consultations
- Assisting with preparation of medication for dispensing
- Reception work
- Administrative tasks such as managing emails, stock management and diary management
A full driving licence and access to transport would be essential requirements for the role along with great team working and communication skills.
A suitable candidate must be at least 18 year old and able to work in a team, have good communications skills and enjoy working with companion animals
Qualifications required to study veterinary nursing as a career is a minimum of 5 GCSEs A-C or an equivalent qualification including minimum of GCSE or Key Skills level 2 English and Maths
