About our Oncology Nurses

As oncology veterinary nurses we enjoy a busy and varied role within the practice. Alongside usual nursing duties, we also administer chemotherapy, assist with complex and reconstructive surgeries, aid with imaging including CT, client contact, palliative care and ensuring the comfort and support of all animals and owners under our care. Our role allows us to develop bonds with our patients as we see them often weekly for repeated treatments, and we often receive updates from owners of our furry friends enjoying everyday life!

It can be a very emotionally challenging role as we build up a bond with our patients and are often there at the end to say goodbye, however it is a comfort to the whole team knowing we have followed whichever treatment pathway to maintain a good quality of life for as long as possible.

We are always keen to broaden our knowledge and undertake relevant continued professional development (CPD). The nursing team are travelling to Frankfurt in Germany at the end of May for the first European Society of Veterinary Oncology tech’s day to meet with other oncology nurses from across Europe, to learn and share their knowledge in this specialist area.
