New Leptospirosis Vaccination Available

Is your dog attracted to ponds and puddles? Poppy being a terrier certainly is.

We are about to upgrade our Leptospirosis vaccine to provide the maximum available protection against the disease. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection. It can pass to humans (Weil's disease). It is transmitted by contact with infected animal urine mainly from rats. It can contaminate puddles, rivers, ponds and flood water. It enters the body through cuts and abrasions and the lining of the nose, mouth and eyes. Left untreated it can progress to potentially fatal liver or kidney disease.

The new vaccine covers more strains of the bacteria but needs two injections four weeks apart. A small inconvenience to protect our much loved companions. This only applies to our canine friends.

The vaccine will be available from Monday 9th June at all of our surgeries.
